There is still fear and several longstanding myths around prenatal massage. We will answer these and other questions about the reality of massaging pregnant women. You will also learn about the comfort and safety issues of working with this population, the contraindications and precautions, how to adapt your massage to fit the changing physiology of the pregnant woman and what to expect in each of the three trimesters of pregnancy.   • Aromatherapy Basics (click here to register) This course will introduce you to key concepts in aromatherapy so that you can educate clients about the benefits of pure and natural essential oils, and then effectively use the blends offered by Massage Envy in your massage sessions to enhance the therapeutic experience of your clients.   • Arthritis, Fibromyalgia and Massage (click here to register)   According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention arthritis has become a public health problem. “An estimated 50 million U.S. adults (about 1 in 5) report doctor-diagnosed arthritis.” There is no doubt you will see clients with arthritis, many of whom will have limited activity as a result of the disease. This course will cover the most common forms of arthritis, explaining what they are, the factors that you would need to consider for massage, what the contraindications are and how massage can benefit clients with arthritis.   • Basics of Research Literacy (click here to registerIn order to build evidence-based practices, massage therapists and bodyworkers must be able to access, evaluate and use research results in real life. Participants will learn the basics of research literacy: what research is, how to do a literature search and critically review current literature, and how to evaluate the findings in research studies based on the evidence presented. Participants will also learn the effective use of online research skills, including the use of search engines and how to access and use the relevant data bases. This is an interactive, online, self-paced course with no time limit for completion.     Behind Closed Doors 2: Massage for the 21st Century 
     Our world of massage is vastly different today than it was even ten years ago. Millions more Americans are receiving massage therapy on a regular basis, all with their own boundaries and perceptions of appropriate touch. Today, massage therapists have to be extremely vigilant in their communication, approach and conduct to ensure their work is provided within each individual client’s comfort zone. Behind Closed Doors is a must do course to learn about the dynamics of inappropriate behavior and human sexuality and how therapists can protect themselves and their career.   • Finding and Evaluating Research (click here to register) (Please note: This course is less in-depth than the Basics of Research Literacy, but it covers similar material) In order to build evidence-informed practices, massage therapists must be able to access, evaluate, and use research results. Participants will learn the beginning steps of becoming research literate, including an introduction to scholarly research and how to evaluate the findings in research studies based on the evidence presented. Participants will also learn basic steps toward the effective use of online search skills, including the use of search engines and how to access and use relevant databases. You will receive 3 hours of approved NCBTMB continuing education when you complete this course. *Note: this course is not approved in Mississippi, Arkansas or Louisiana. Cost: $28 (a portion of the tuition is donated to the Massage Therapy Foundation)
  • HIV/AIDS and Massage Therapy (click here to register) It is estimated that more than 1 million people are living with HIV in the U.S. today. There is a good chance that one of those people will come to you for a massage. This course was designed to give you basic information so that you can feel comfortable and safe working with this population. HIV/AIDS and Massage Therapy will provide you with the facts and dispel the myths.
