Web-based Education: The Time is Now

from Jan Schwartz

There have been a lot of firsts on the internet this past week, in the area of social media:  Ashton Kutcher hit 1,000,000 followers on Twitter, Oprah started Twittering,  Susan Boyle, a middle class woman from Scotland, became the biggest YouTube sensation ever, Domino’s Pizza had a nightmare PR issue publicized on YouTube, and Twitter grew 131% in March.  If Twitter keeps growing at its current rate it will hit 100 million users by next year

How does this relate to web-based education?  Well, YouTube now has YouTube.edu, iTunes now has ITunes U,  Twitter is being studied as a tool for education in some universities, and Facebook is being studied as an education tool .
